Olya Wright - Artist Biography

Olya Wright paints realistic transparent watercolour works as a specialty, and also creates acrylic paintings, oil paintings, and graphics. She maintains a strong focus on technique and method learned from her classical art education.

Olya's art studies include a baccalaureate degree in Visual Fine Arts from the Krivoy Rog Pedagogical University in Ukraine. Olya worked in furniture design and as an interior designer, and has since pursued painting full-time.

Favouring portraits and figuratives, Olya often chooses to portray people in a manner which allows the viewer to interpret the subject's thoughts and feelings. Her plein air landscapes evoke a sense of place and character, expressed by the rhythm of brushstroke and by the balance of light. Olya's still life paintings embrace and challenge traditional ideals, projecting a moods of both timelessness and of change. Her graphic works in pen and pencil possess an intricate attention to detail, engaging the viewer in a visual dialogue.

Olya's recent works include westerns inspired by the people and the scenery of the historical old west and the modern rural west.

An observational and thoughtful artist, Olya observes her environment and strives to find new challenges and new ways to evolve her technique. As an art lover, she frequents galleries, museums and openings in support of the arts community.

Olya's paintings represent a stage in a nurturing creative cycle. Both originals and prints of her work are represented among private collections in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, France, and Mexico.
